What Inspired

Perfectly Dismantled?

Painter, crafter, expressionist, creator, human.

Boricua + Panamanian artist Jessica Mata, owner of Perfectly Dismantled is changing the course of art through her innovative methods of incorporating polymer clay and utilizing her voice to speak on topics surrounding Mental Health. While taking up Art history and black/white film photography in her hometown Brooklyn, New York Mata became inspired and began creating small works of art on canvas in 2010. After painting for over 10 years she decided that one day she was going to pick up polymer clay and make art that you could wear. Leaving her art out of all labels, she made it her own. Utilizing the process of self discovery and her mental health advocacy as her subjects, Mata uses the human anatomy, distorted portraits, unique shapes and paint as the vehicle to tell her story inspiring others through her inviting transparency. Creating wearable art made with intention.

Resonating with artist such as Frida Kahlo, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Salvdaor Dali, Keith Haring, Yayoi Kusama and many other greats who came before her. She finds each of these artist share a common goal to create and continue creating in the face of adversity at all cost via self-expression through their art. That is what sparks her motivation. Soon after, Mata devoted her life purpose to making art that would spark self-reflection and self-realization within herself and others. A platform where she could meet others like her seeking healing in a world that says you can't feel. So it was important for her to create a world where we could heal through art. Through her courage to kick back in her darkest moments facing depression and anxiety but always remaining creative, Mata hopes to send a lasting message to all - something beautiful can always be found in our darkest moments.
